Mobile Dog Grooming for Big Dogs in Orlando
Yes, Oh My Boss Mobile Grooming grooms big dogs at home, and that includes extra large breeds. Golden Retrievers, Labs, German Shepherds, Huskies, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Great Danes and big doodles all get groomed in our van, parked at your door in Orlando and more than 20 nearby cities in Central Florida.
Why is a big dog harder to get groomed?
With a big dog, most of the work happens before anyone picks up a brush. Lifting 100 pounds of reluctant dog into the back of a car is a job on its own, and then he still has to wait his turn at the salon. With a mobile groomer that whole part disappears. Your dog walks from the front door to the van, and walks back when he is done.
Is the van big enough for an extra large dog?
Yes. Our vans are set up for every size, from small breeds to extra large dogs, and there is only ever one dog in the van, so a big dog has the whole space and the groomer's full attention. The van is self contained, with its own water, hot water and power, so nothing gets plugged into your house and no hose runs from your tap.
Will you shave my Golden, Husky or German Shepherd?
No. On double coated breeds we use scissors only and never shave the coat down. Dr. Jerry Klein, chief veterinary officer of the American Kennel Club, puts it simply: "Your dog's coat actually acts as an insulator." The AKC explains that shaving takes that layer away, can leave the dog more exposed to heat stroke and can damage how the coat grows back. In a Florida summer that is the opposite of what you want. If the real goal is less hair on your floor, a deshedding treatment is the right service.
Does the Florida humidity matter for a big coat?
It does. A thick undercoat that is not brushed out tends to pack down against the skin. In the AKC guide to double coats, groomer Dale Martins notes that "a dog who lives in a humid climate and isn't brushed weekly may have a thick undercoat that gets packed in and keeps moisture next to the skin." That is why big double coated dogs here do best on a regular grooming schedule instead of one big groom a year.
What about big dogs with short coats?
Labs, Boxers, Great Danes, Rottweilers, Dobermans and Pit Bulls have no haircut to do. For them the service is a bath with a full blow dry and brush out, plus a sanitary trim if you want the face, paws and sanitary area cleaned up. Labs shed a lot more than people expect, and they do well with deshedding too.
Does a big dog cost more?
Yes. Size is one of the two things that set the price, along with the condition of the coat. Here is where each size starts:
Small dogs (up to 29 lbs): Bath from $80, Mini Groom from $100, full Grooming from $120.
Medium dogs (30 to 48 lbs): Bath from $95, Mini Groom from $115, full Grooming from $150.
Large dogs (49 to 88 lbs): Bath from $120, Mini Groom from $140, full Grooming from $200.
Extra large dogs (89 lbs and up): Bath from $155, Mini Groom from $175, full Grooming from $280.
These are our Gold package. Platinum adds $15 and Diamond adds $35, at every size.
We ask for the breed and the weight before quoting, so you get a firm number up front instead of a surprise at the door. You can see how our pricing works, add-ons included, before you even message us.
