If you want your doodle groomed at home in Orlando, that is exactly what we do. Why is a doodle coat so hard to keep up?
A doodle is a cross, so the coat can come out curly like the Poodle, straighter like the other parent, or anywhere in between. Many are wavy, and some carry undercoat from the retriever side. The hair keeps growing like a Poodle's, and the soft, dense parts knot close to the skin, where you cannot see them from the top. A doodle can look fluffy and fine while it is matting underneath.
How often should a doodle be groomed?
Doodles are in the group of coats that keep growing, so they need a real haircut every four to six weeks. Brushing all the way down to the skin a few times a week lets you stretch toward six. Skipping it pulls you toward four. There is a longer breakdown by coat type in our guide on how often to groom your dog.
What if my doodle is already matted?
Tell us when you message, and send a photo if you can. Light matting can usually be brushed out during the groom. Mats that are tight and pulling on the skin have to be cut out, because brushing them hurts and can tear the skin. That is standard practice, not a shortcut. The AKC guide to grooming says groomers are "adept at removing matted hair and thick tangles gently, and when necessary, cutting down the coat to remove the tangles and allow the skin to dry." The groomer will show you what she finds and explain the options before she starts. Mat removal is an add-on, and our price guide shows what it costs.
What haircut can a doodle get?
A teddy bear cut, a puppy cut, something shorter for the Florida summer, or longer and fluffier if you keep up the brushing at home. All of those are normal requests. Tell the groomer what you have in mind when the van arrives, or show her a photo, and she will tell you honestly what your dog's coat can hold. A full haircut includes the bath, blow dry, brush out, the cut itself, nails and ears.
Can you groom a big doodle?
Yes. A standard Goldendoodle or Bernedoodle can be as big as any retriever, and we groom every size, including extra large dogs. Mini doodles are just as welcome. Size sets part of the price, so we ask for your doodle's weight before quoting. A doodle needs a real haircut, so the full Grooming is the price to look at. Here is where each size starts:
Small dogs (up to 29 lbs): Bath from $80, Mini Groom from $100, full Grooming from $120.
Medium dogs (30 to 48 lbs): Bath from $95, Mini Groom from $115, full Grooming from $150.
Large dogs (49 to 88 lbs): Bath from $120, Mini Groom from $140, full Grooming from $200.
Extra large dogs (89 lbs and up): Bath from $155, Mini Groom from $175, full Grooming from $280.
These are our Gold package. Platinum adds $15 and Diamond adds $35, at every size.
